A few weeks ago I received an e-mail from Diane, for a while she had been looking for another lampshade because the previous one was worn out due to aging. She had started looking on Pinterest and ran into my crocheted lampshade. She liked it so much that she approached me if I want to made one for her! Although I had to think about it for a short while, I was finally quick about it: I wanted to do this! The woman came over very friendly and during this process it stayed that way. So, you see that kindness opens many doors!

Large lampshade

Well, because she would rather have a larger size than my version – the blog post about it can be found here – I had to look for a lamp shade with a larger diameter, her preference: 50 cm! Actually went directly to recycle shop and there, a friendly man in the recycle shop look into the stock and he had one of 55cm diameter! So that went smoothly!

Srike yarn

Because this lampshade is many times bigger, I could hardly estimate how much wool I needed. Well, that eventually became 10 balls! Fortunately I saved a wrapper so that when I had to buy wool, I also had the right number of the color bath! Glad I saved that!

Yarn eating pattern

Well, the pattern is a real wool devourer! It is also a heavily job to crochet! I did over an hour to hook a tour with clusters. Still, I really enjoyed doing it, especially because of the nice result! Because of the decreasing and that I also hooked in rounds, a few times, the clusters came right above each other. Not really nice, so I wanted to report this to the customer before I would send the lampshade. Diane made absolutely no point of it. Now I would not really bother myself, but as an experienced crocheter, it irritated me!

Fasten the crochtwork

What I also found very exciting was how I would lock my crocheted fabric with this lampshade. With my own lampshade, it fits as a cover around it. However, my lampshade is light in color and this one is black and therefore leaves no light! Eventually I started cut the old black shade. Again I fit the crocheted and with single crochet I crocheted the edges on the lampshade. Then I also stitch  all the way around: So, that is really fixed hihi

Send

For at least a week  I had the crocheted lampshade on my own lamp and I joked to my husband: ‘we will keep it for ourselves’. Of course I would never do that, because I hooked him up for someone else! Well, now he’s send and arrived at the buyer! And she is very happy with it! As a detail I crochet from the book ‘Hooks with Studio Hip and Stip’ this accessories with a nice tag and ‘thank you’ stamped on it. I attached it with jute rope.

When the customer paid, I got something more, that I loved so much and gave me that extra confirmation: she really likes him! (It was so exciting whether she really liked the result.)

Positive experience

For me it were a very positive experience to work on assignment. The pressure that it is for someone else really helped me to continue and to bring it to a final result.
Do you also sometimes work on assignment? And if so: what is your experience?
Not? Is this a conscious choice? Or would you like to do it?

A great weekend for you!
Love, Zusjeknus!
